Family Retreats:

This is another branch of Joni and Friends' Ministries. These retreats are held for families and singles with disabilities to have fun, make new friends, learn more about God, and be encouraged and refreshed. Volunteers are needed to assist disabled individuals and their families. One week opportunities include caring for and getting to know a person with special needs. This may include help with feeding, but definitely includes play, fun, and laughter along with learning together about God's love and plan for our lives. Activities include such things as small group discussions for adults, recreation and crafts for kids, square dancing, a hay ride, carnival, pony rides, and swimming. Locations closest to Fort Wayne are Oakwood Inn in Syracuse, and the Shawnee Resort in southern Ohio. Volunteers are responsible to provide funds for their costs, with arrangements being made by Joni and Friends' Ministries.
